Officials confirmed a tornado over Poolesville and Gaithersburg, however, residents across the area shared photos of uprooted trees, downed poles, and all-around wreckage left by the storm.
The National Weather Service is deploying four survey teams to investigation the damage in nine counties across West Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland.
While a twister wasn't officially confirmed in Leesburg, residents shared footage of an ominous cloud hovering over the area on X.
NWS findings were expected to be released Thursday, June 6.
Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman says he is relieved no one was killed, and that "we dodged a major bullet."
The neighborhood most impacted was East Deer Park, he added.
"Some minor injuries," Ashman said, "but no loss of life, thank goodness."
